PROS

The strips take only on average, approximately 5-10 minutes to dissolve. This of course varies by individual. I found that they generally took the full 10 minutes to dissolve on my teeth. They are designed to dissolve evenly and from my experience they did just that.

When you give out a business card, you don’t want the ink to come off in your potential client’s hand. Free business card offers abound, but the quality can be variable to say the least. So when a family member showed me a business card that she had got FREE from Vistaprint.com, I decided to check it out for myself.

As it turned out, there was also a UK version, but when I looked at the available designs, the one I wanted was only available on the US site, so that’s where I went.
Registration When you get to the site, the free business card link is on the top left. Clicking on this takes you to a page where you can browse the designs. However, before you can start the process of getting something for virtually nothing, you need to register.

Registration is simple: you provide an email address, last name and first name, and set a password. You can also fill in a company name and provide a password hint in case you forget your password later. I chose not to provide a hint, then had to rely on my faulty memory on my second visit to the site.

You then need to tick a box to say whether the card for business or personal use (why does this matter, I wonder) and then need to untick a box to opt out of the company’s special offers and stop them from passing your name on to others. Finally, you need to specify whether emails should be sent in HTML or plain text, press register and you’re off.

You will then get an automatic registration confirmation (it does not include your password for security reasons) and a link where you can go back and design your business cards.

Design process First, select a design. These are divided into categories: most popular, new arrivals and business, high impact and stylish. You then have a number of delivery options, from slow (21 days, $5.51) to standard (14 days, $8.95) to priority (7 days, $13.95). Prices vary depending on the options you have chosen. You get another chance to sign up for special offers and when you press proceed to checkout you can also opt to buy 25 matching magnets at $9.99.

You’re then taken to a secure site where you can enter shipping information, then view an order summary, enter credit card details, and can opt to buy 140 self-adhesive address labels at $3.99. Click on accept (with or without labels) and your order is processed, confirmed by email and shipped within the specified time.

Annoyances As a business, I suppose Vistaprint have to use their site and emails to advertise products, but I found the advertising obtrusive. Unwary shoppers could well reach the checkout and find they’ve amassed a huge bill, having ordered magnets and labels as well as the free business cards.

The bottom line My order was shipped five days after I placed it from their Netherlands office and was in my hands a week after the order, much quicker than the advertised 21 days. Ordering from the US cost me GBP3.14 instead of GBP3.08 from the UK but an extra 6p was a small price to pay for having the design I wanted. When I’m ready for a new batch, I’ll definitely be using them again. (Update: I have just ordered another batch of business cards. They all come from one site now and there are a lot of free offers.)

I’ve always been a huge movie buff, and to fuel my “obsession” I have just about every movie channel possible on Dish Network. That being said, I pay ALOT more than I would like to every month for TV. I have a family and although I do pretty well, sometimes the budget gets a bit tight. Over the past few months a lot of my friends have signed up for Netflix, and they have constantly been telling me how awesome it was.

Last week I finally decided to give in and I signed up through the Netflix website. They are currently giving a way a free trial that lasts 2 weeks, so it’s not like I would lose anything if the service sucked. I figured that if the service was as good as everyone said it was I could drop a lot of the premium movie channels I have and end up saving a good chunk of change every month.

During the Sign up process I chose the “2 DVDs at a time” plan that is around $14 a month. With this plan I also get to watch 14 hours of movies on my PC through the new service Netflix is offering that lets you download movies right to your computer. Although I already have a tv and movies on your PC program, I will give this a shot as well.

For those of you who don’t know how Netflix works, basically you visit the Netflix site, make a list of movies you want to see, and then with in about one business day you receive the first one or two movies on your list in the mail. You can keep the movies as long as you want. When your done with them you just put them back in the prepaid envelope and mail them back. Then in a few days, you get the next movies on your list. Its a pretty simple concept and over the past few years its been extremely successful (pretty much putting Blockbuster and other video rental stores out of business).

The clear advantage of Netflix to Blockbuster and Video Stores is that you do everything from the connivence of your home. It’s really convenient, and most people who join Netflix never go to a video store again. Netflix is also a lot less expensive then renting videos from stores, or from Pay Per View, and as I said before it’s a great alternative to paying for HBO, Showtime and other premium channels with Satellite or Cable.

So far I have received a few movies, and it really has taken only about one business day to receive my movies. I think this was what I was most skeptical about, however every time I check my mail, I’m usually surprised to find another movie waiting for me there. I’ve found the Netflix site pretty easy to use, and they have a great system that recommends movies based on movies that you have requested and movies on your list. Since I’ve already seen ALOT, and I mean ALOT of movies this has helped me discover new movies that I never even heard of.

Overall my experience with Netflix has been overwhelmingly positive. I will be keeping the service and probably canceling some of the premium movie channels I currently get through Dish Network. Once you sign up and get hooked on Netflix you don’t look back. I’m really glad that I ended up giving it a try, this is the best service I have used in a long time, and its not a surprise to me that as a company they are doing really well.
